Statement of Faith

The UVCC Statement of Faith is our biblical and foundational belief system. This meets the primary need of remaining true to the spirit of God’s Word. The Statements are standards and fundamental. These faith statements are non-negotiable. They are core in the system of belief. These faith statements are to produce stronger and solid biblical moorings for a child of God. Likewise, they are to detect false teachings and half-truths.

God.

We believe in a covenantal God who revealed himself in three distinct, eternally existing, divine persons, namely: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is unchanging, infinite, and worthy of worship. This great God revealed Himself; therefore, people can respond by knowing & worshiping Him.

Genesis 1:1,26; John 1:1,3; Matthew 28:19; John 4:24; Romans 1:19,20; Ephesians 4:5,6

Jesus Christ.

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ. He is God’s only Son; born through a virgin. He is with God, and is God from the beginning. He humbled himself and became human susceptible to human situations. He lived a holy life, doing miracles, teaching God’s will, and showing kingdom living to all. He bore humankind’s sin through His sacrificial death on the cross, rose on the third day, and will come back a second time in glory and honor.

Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; John 1:1; John 20:28; Romans 9:5; Romans 8:46; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-23; John 20:30,31; Matthew 20:28; Ephesians 1:4; Acts 1:11; Romans 5:6-8; 6:9,10; Philippians 2:1-11; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Timothy 3:16.

Man.

We believe that humankind is created in God’s image and is very special to God. Humankind is the center of His love and affections. But humankind has sinful tendencies to turn away from the living God. Therefore is in need to live daily in God’s grace.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2

Bible.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, God-breathed and containing no error (infallible). Its authority comes from God, it leads to understanding everything about God, life, and spirituality; which, results to changed lives.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Mark 13:31; John 8:31,32; John 20:31; Acts 20:32

Holy Spirit.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit in order for all believers to live holy lives. He is also the Counsellor, the Comforter, God’s deposit to those who will be redeemed.

John 14:16,17,26; John 15:26,27; John 16:9-14; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; 2 Corinthians 1:22; 2 Corinthians 5:5; Galatians 5:22-26

Salvation.

We believe that salvation is completely God’s gift, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His redemptive death on the cross. It is not merited by mere works. Changed life is a product of genuine salvation not of self-improvements. If salvation is genuine, it cannot be lost. But genuine salvation has genuine fruit. There are bases and tests for the assurance of salvation.

Church.

We believe in both the church universal and the local church. The church universal consists of a big spiritual body of believers of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. The local church, consisting of a group of believers in Jesus Christ, actively related communally as local church members for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and doing ministry. We believe that God has mandated the leaders and members of the local church the primary task of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
